What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a branch of medicine that focuses on evidence-based practices, meaning that it employs techniques and treatments that have been shown by controlled research studies to be statistically effective for the problems they treat. Chiropractic medicine is a non-surgical approach that emphasizes drug-free pain relief and approaches evaluation and care from a whole-person perspective, employing many different modalities to achieve and maintain optimal health. With growing recognition by more traditional branches of western medicine over the past several decades, more and more large research studies are being done demonstrating the benefits of chiropractic care. In a society where we’re trying to move away from using prescription drugs and opioids for pain management, chiropractic care is an obvious choice.
Chiropractic is good for everything. It’s not just cracking your back, I make sure that your joints are in their optimal alignment. For instance: it’s like when your finger is jammed - it hurts, you can’t use it, and it’s hard to bend. All you really want is for it “to pop”. Now apply that same idea to almost any joint in your body. Sometimes things aren’t moving quite how they need to. Sometimes they’re able to fix themselves over the course of a few days or hours, but sometimes we need a hand from someone else. That’s what I’m here for.
Chiropractic isn’t just about your bones and joints either. In addition to skeletal manipulation, I also incorporate muscular therapies and rehabilitative exercises into patient care. Some chiropractors even offer nutritional, dietary and lifestyle modification counseling into their practices. For more information on muscle work and therapies check out our ART page, and for info on rehab we have a couple of videos up on our Video page.
Today, lots of people are under the care of both a medical and chiropractic physician. While both forms of medical care offer unique and different perspectives on optimal treatments to maintain health, they often work together and compliment one another. Patients find they like the more global approach to finding their ideal health and appreciate the unique perspectives and recommendations that both types of physicians can offer.
Understanding Chiropractic:
The Pop
Some people love the pop and crack. Some - not so much… So, what is it? Well, it’s basically gas.
Chiropractic Care History & Philosophy
The first school of chiropractic medicine was founded here, in the United States, in Davenport, Iowa in 1897. Since that time, chiropractic care has gained recognition as a legitimate, therapeutic form of medical treatment in all 50 states as well as countries across the world including Mexico, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Switzerland and Australia.
The philosophy of care in chiropractic medicine can vary widely from doctor to doctor, but at its core it is focused on the overall well-being and optimized general health of the patient. Chiropractors focus on disorders of the muscles, joints, and nerves, as well as the effects that they can have on one’s general health. The overriding principle of care is that structure affects function.
My Chiropractic Philosophy
My goal is to get you out of pain, teach you how to stay out of pain, and send you off until the next time you need a hand.
